The Second Workshop on Decommissioning Robotics Technologies with the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) Was Held

Prof. Rob Buckingham and other representatives of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) visited Japan from January 19 to 20, 2026, to host a workshop on decommissioning robotics technologies in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture (Hotel Maruya Grande).

During the workshop, the Robotics Research Area Units of F‑REI outlined their current research and development initiatives. In addition, Nuclear Accident Response Office Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, MET, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc., and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency delivered presentations on the current status and challenges related to decommissioning. Based on these presentations, UKAEA, F-REI, and Japanese companies and experts involved in decommissioning engaged in extensive discussions on a wide range of topics.
