1. Outlines:
- a) The project pursues to establish a farming method which realizes high value-added production or high productivity of crops. To this end, it is required to replace a part of nutrients such as carbon and nitrogen with RI, incorporate them into crops as tracers, and analyze quantitatively the dynamics of nutrients and metabolites inside plants utilizing RI imaging technologies. It is also necessary to investigate the mechanism of plant growth.
- b) It is aimed to develop technologies for plant RI imaging that enables to enhance spatial and energy resolution and mitigate noise. Also, it is aimed to achieve a visualization of the dynamics of nutrients and other substances at cell level, which has not been realized up to now. Visualization should be realized by way of integrating RI imaging with other imaging technologies such as fluorescence imaging.
- c) It is required to rent agricultural fields in corporation with local governments and companies in Fukushima Prefecture and demonstrate the technologies developed by a) and b) at the fields. Demonstration is aimed to improve cultivation methods and develop novel agricultural products.
