Monday, August 25 to Wednesday, August 27 — F-REI Summer School 2025 was held for three days at Fukushima Robot Test Field (RTF) in Minamisoma City, Fukushima. The summer learning program was attended by a total of five students from Fukushima University, Fukushima Medical University, the University of Aizu, and the National Institute of Technology, Fukushima College.
On the first day, students joined a guided tour to TEPCO Decommissioning Archive Center. Next, at RTF, they attended a lecture from KAWAUCHI Yasuhiro, the CEO of Living Robot Inc., which is a company affiliated with RTF. Participants had the opportunity to operate the company's robots through programming.
On the second day, Unit Leader ONISHI Kohei of F-REI's Haptic Teleoperation Research Unit gave a lecture on real haptics. Members of the research unit also demonstrated the mechanism of their remote-controlled robots, which are equipped with real haptics technology. Students were given an opportunity to experiment, tuning various parameters to examine the effect on the robots' movements. After the robotics experiment, students received a lecture on future leadership by F-REI President YAMAZAKI Koetsu. The lecture was followed by an open discussion between the President and the students.
On the last day, students gave a presentation on their results of the previous day's experiment.
Participating students commented that the contents of this program were highly relevant to their current research, thus deepening their understanding. They also said that this summer school provided them with a valuable opportunity to learn new mindsets and perspectives from established researchers.
