Tuesday, August 19 to Friday, August 22 — The 2025 Kirkham Conference, an international conference on soil physics, was held at National Training Center: J-Village in Naraha Town, Fukushima. The conference is held every four years to foster in-depth exploration of soil physics, providing an opportunity for disciplinary and interdisciplinary discussions.
Dr. FUJII Kazumichi, Unit Leader of F‑REI's Soil Homeostasis Research Unit (Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries), actively participated in the conference. On the first day, he presented a poster of his research on soil water retention. On August 21, Unit Leader Fujii guided participants on a tour to Iitate Village, where he showed and explained various layers of soil in forest and farmland.
As one of the sponsors, F-REI set up a booth at the venue, where we introduced visitors to F‑REI's initiatives and research. Furthermore, at dinner banquet at the end of the first day, F‑REI President YAMAZAKI Koetsu sent a video message welcoming all participants to Fukushima. These events highlighted F-REI's international reach.
The conference was attended by a total of 96 participants from Japan (37 participants), USA (31 participants), and other countries. F-REI greatly valued this opportunity to deepen engagement with researchers and stakeholders from Japan and overseas.
