In April 2023, the Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (commonly known as “F-REI”) was established to provide dreams and hopes for realizing the reconstruction of Fukushima and other prefectures in the Tohoku region. In addition, F-REI aims to become a world-renowned “central institute for creative reconstruction” which drives forward with enhancing the scientific capabilities, technological capabilities and industrial competitiveness of Japan and contributes to economic growth and improvement to the daily lives of people living in Japan.
In cooperation with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, we will invite the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU) to Japan for “collection and dissemination of data and insights related to disasters caused by atomic power,” which is one of the five fields where F-REI’s initiatives are implemented. Accordingly, we will hold the ICRU International Symposium.
The theme of the ICRU International Symposium is “Reconstruction of Fukushima and Radiation Measurements” and we will discuss activities that contribute to the reconstruction of Fukushima through the development of radiation measurement technology, etc., which started in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
