Fukushima institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI) has appointed four experts with international knowledge as international advisors to provide advice on its operations.

Dr. Svante Lindqvist (Sweden)
Dr. Svante Lindqvist is an internationally renowned researcher in the history of science and technology, who served as the president of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (2009-2012) and Marshal of the Realm to the Swedish Royal Court (2010-2018). He is the founder of the Nobel Museum in Stockholm and served as the first director for 11 years. He has been greatly contributing for facilitating academic exchanges between Sweden and Japan and an Honorary Member of the Japan Academy.

Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer (Germany)
Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer, is regarded as one of the most renowned scientists and researchers in the field of production technologies and forming technology in Germany. Elected in 2012 as the 10th President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, he drove global excellence through innovation and fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government until 2023 boosting the development of Fraunhofer from 18.000 researchers and a budget of 1.9 billion Euro to 30.000 employees and a budget of 3.0 billion euros.From 1992 to 2012, he was Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU) in Chemnitz, transforming it into a globally respected partner for the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors. He is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, acatech (the German Academy of Science and Engineering), and also served on the steering committee of Germany’s Innovation Dialogue, the Chancellor`s Future Council as well as High-Tech-Forum, advising the Federal Government on high-tech strategy and innovation policy. He is an honorary professor at Hebrew University, Michigan State University, KU Leuven and Technical University Munich, among others.

Prof. Fiona Rayment (UK)
Prof. Fiona Rayment has dedicated over 30 years to the nuclear sector with extensive strategic and operational experience. She is a chartered chemist and engineer and is a Fellow the Royal Academy of Engineering, Royal Society of Chemistry, Nuclear Institute and American Nuclear Society. She is the current President of the Nuclear Institute and a former Chief Scientist of National Nuclear Laboratory. She is a visiting Professor in Nuclear Policy and Capability at the University of Manchester’s Dalton Nuclear Institute. She is also an honorary Professor at University of Bangor’s Nuclear Futures Institute and is a vice chair of the Nuclear Energy Agency’s Steering Committee. She has long advocated widening participation in science and engineering and champions nuclear sector-leading approaches to diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Subra Suresh (US)
Dr. Subra Suresh is an internationally renowned researcher in material science and engineering, mechanical engineering, biological engineering, and health science and technology, who served as the Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) (2010-2013). Under his leadership, NSF’s program and initiative kept the United States at the forefront of science and engineering, empowered future generations of scientists and engineers, and fostered economic growth and innovation. He also served as the President of Carnegie Melon University (2013-2017) and Nanyang Technological University (2018-2022).
