Base Information Q&A Site F-REI

About this site

Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI) is committed to clarifying the environmental behavior of radioactive materials, particularly in Fukushima, which was affected by a nuclear disaster. This work is carried out in collaboration with the national government, Fukushima Prefecture, and related organizations. The aim is to contribute to environmental recovery by collecting and analyzing scientific knowledge obtained through research and environmental monitoring, as well as data and insights related to the nuclear disaster accumulated by various institutions. F-REI also focuses on human resource development and the continuous and effective dissemination of information across generations and regions.

This website is operated to present scientific findings from research on environmental dynamics and monitoring in an easy-to-understand manner. It was originally created and managed by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) until FY2024. The research content on this site is based on information provided by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Fukushima Prefecture, the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, and other relevant organizations.

To help users easily find and understand the information they need, the website offers multiple levels of explanation with varying degrees of detail. In addition to textual explanations, the site includes charts, photographs, underlying data, and reasoning, as well as links to reference materials such as academic papers and related websites. Features such as pop-up explanations for technical terms and a glossary of important terminology have also been added.
